Brabus E V12 Black Baron

Brabus_E_V12_Black_Baron

Look, before we get caught up in all the adulation we’re just going to come right out and say it: for $875,000 large, your rear wheel arches should not look like they were pulled off a first-gen Honda Insight and covered with a can of Krylon #1602. Just saying.

At any rate, the Brabus E V12 Black Barron is actually a 2010 Mercedes E-Class W212 with a shitton rather large amount of black paint and a serious upgrade package. The twin-turbo 6.0L V12 under the hood churns out a staggering 800-horsepower and 1046 lb-ft of torque, which is just enough to kill you and – judging by what usually happens when a reckless kid with a trust fund buys a supercar – probably will. Speed is electronically limited to 217 mph but if you can figure out how to disable the governor, Brabus claims you can push it as far as 230 mph. 0-62 mph is reached in 3.7 seconds, 0-124 mph in 9.9, 0-186mph in 23.9, and to generate the allusion of control over all that power, Brabus outfitted the Black Baron with an adaptable sports suspension, new stabilizers, and a high performance braking system.

Given that 0-124mph in under 10 seconds is a bowel-loosening experience (124-0mph in roughly the same time, even more so) and that black hides stains well, the interior of Brabus’ Baron comes covered stem to stern in black leather and black Alcantara upholstery. Carbon fiber trim

adorns the instrument cluster and center stack, and a badge authenticating the Baron’s exclusive heritage is prominently displayed above the big silver knob that we assume is designated for easily summoning the emergency response crews.

GT5 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG

mercedes-benz_sls_amg_gran_turismo5_3

For those of you old enough to remember Ms. Pac-Man, the realism with which today’s video games are delivered may almost seem surreal. Such is the case with the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG pictured above (and below, after the jump), which is set to take center stage in the new Gran Turismo 5 when it hits stores in a few months. Rendered by the pros at Polyphony Digital, the GT5 SLS AMG is a dead ringer for the production version scheduled to debut in mid-2010 and can be had for thousands of dollars less than the original. Of course, the babes you’ll attract will be limited to whatever can be found skulking around the chat rooms but hey,you know what they say, you can’t have your cake and eat it too…

Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG with a shot of SLS

Mercedes-Benz has released a new optional Performance Package Plus for the C 63 AMG, adding extra grunt and style to cater for the most power-hungry sports driver.

Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG mit Performance Package Plus

The package is available for the saloon and estate models, boosting peak output by 22kW to 358kW, approaching the level of performance offered by C-Class DTM vehicles at 377kW.

It also includes an AMG high-performance braking system featuring composite technology on the front axle, a carbon fibre spoiler lip and an AMG performance steering wheel in nappa leather and Alcantara.

740037_1344796_3057_1497_09C1013_02

As a result, C 63 AMG’s equipped with Performance Package Plus accelerate from zero to 100km/h in 4.4 seconds and on to 200km/h in 13.9 seconds – 1.2 seconds quicker than the standard model.

This increase in power has been achieved by adopting the forged pistons from the new SLS AMG gullwing together with new connecting rods and a lightweight crankshaft translate into a weight saving of three kilograms.

Introducing the New Mercedez-Benz E-Class for 2010

The all new 2010 Ninth Generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sedan and Coupe introduces the new theme: Everything We Know, Everything We Are: This is Mercedes-Benz.

"In a tough market, the strength of the Mercedes-Benz brand -- rooted in timeless design, craftsmanship and innovation -- has enabled us to outperform both the market and the luxury segment," said Stephen Cannon, vice president of marketing for MBUSA. "We're excited for a big launch of the ninth generation E-Class -- the heart and soul of our brand."

The new E-Class campaign features a series of brief ads that pay homage to the newly introduced luxury vehicle.

In the first ad, the E-Class sedan visits its predecessors as the voiceover narrates the Mercedes Benz heritage of innovation, safety patents and a world record for longevity and endurance, setting the stage for "one of the most technologically advanced automobiles on the planet."

The next ad focuses not only on the innovation of the new E-Class, but safety in particular. The new E-Class features a combination of innovative safety technology not found anywhere else, including Attention Assist, Lane Departure Assist, Distronic Plus, Blind Spot Monitoring, Intelligent Night View and nine airbags.

To compliment the live action ads, a print campaign features various versions of the E-Class entitled "Future of the Automobile," "More Advanced," "Engineering Afficionados" and "Changes the Game."

In addition, the 2010 E-Class also has a brand new section on mbusa.com. The site blends emotion-invoking images with useful, informational content for the consumer as well as eight video vignettes. Consumers can enjoy a completely new online luxury car shopping experience through a combination of immersive video, at-a-glance feature comparisons and third-party reviews. In addition MBUSA also uses mobile Web applications to reach consumers for the first time, targeting users of devices like iPhones, featuring photo galleries, detailed overviews and customized vehicle comparisons as a means to drive consumers to showrooms and test-drive events.

With a starting price of $48,600, the E-Class line-up featuring the E350 and E550 coupes and sedans will once again set the standard for the luxury automobile market, in terms of safety, comfort and advanced technology.

New Mercedes-Benz S-Class

Mercedes-Benz S-Class

Despite big changes to the way that the 2010 model year Mercedes-Benz S-Class limousine is equipped, under the skin it’s still pretty much the same car that it was before.

Yes, there are mechanical changes, but they are so subtle in their application that you’d never know they were there. We only got to drive two of the facelifted S-Class models — the impressive 285kW/530Nm V8-powered S500 fitted with optional 19-inch alloys, and the comparatively fuel-miserly 173kW/540Nm S350 CDI BlueEfficiency turbo-diesel fitted with 18-inch rims and low rolling resistance tyres.

Mercedes-Benz has boasted fuel savings of up to 7 per cent across the S-Class range, mainly through the use of a seven-speed automatic gearbox that unlocks the torque converter while stopped and idling in traffic, similar to placing the gearbox in neutral.

It’s a totally seamless system, and you won’t ever notice that it has kicked in — or should that be kicked out?

There’s a focus, too, on suggesting the S-Class has improved its dynamics. Key to that is the fact there is now a separate sports suspension setting mounted high on the centre console, so that you can beef up the air suspension without having to switch modes for the gearbox between comfort, sport and manual. It was a good way of minimising body roll without having to sling the car into sports mode, as at times the S-Class can still handle like the big, heavy car that it is.

2010 Mercedes E Class

Mercedes E Class (2010) has been premiered in Detroit at the North American International Auto Show. 2010 Mercedes E Class is powered with new CDI-four-cylinder engines that have a fuel consumption of 5.3 liters per 100 km and a CO2 emissions level of 139 grams/km. 2010 Mercedes E Class may develops 125kW/170 hp with the E 220 CDI, while the E 200 CDI outputs 100 kW/136 hp, and the E 350 CDI delivers 170 kW/231 hp.

2010 Mercedes E Class also meets the Euro 6 standards as it will also be available with the E 350 BlueTEC engine that outputs 155 kW/211 hp.

2010 Mercedes E Class will also be available with the AMG sports package which includes AMG design bumpers and side skirts, a black roof lining, a three-spoke sports steering wheel with shift paddles, and sport seats. 2010 Mercedes E Class AMG sits on 18-inch light-alloy wheels and features a lowered sports suspension and perforated disc brakes.

2010 Mercedes E Class can be ordered soon as this car will become available in showrooms from March 2009.

2010 Mercedes E-Class

Official images of the forthcoming 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class have been leaked onto the internet ahead of the luxury sedan’s planned debut in 2009. Known internally by its W212 chassis moniker, the new mid-size executive sedan from Mercedes-Benz adopts a more angular styling which tries to evoke the robustness of the mid-1980s - early-1990s E-Class range. Judging by these photos, we reckon that Merc’s designers did it in a much less classy way, but we’ll have to wait to see the sedan in real life for a safer verdict.

2010 Mercedes E-Class

There are no official details concern the car, but according to our sources, the new E-Class will boast an updated engine line-up with several new and revised gasoline and Bluetec diesel powerplants including a base 1.8-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol unit and Merc’s new 204 HP 2.2-liter turbo diesel. Furthermore, the German firm will enhance its BMW 5-Series rival with a range-topping AMG variant equipped with a slightly tweaked version of the current model’s 6.2-liter V8 engine producing close to 550HP as well as diesel-hybrid and petrol-hybrid versions.

Later on in the year, Mercedes-Benz will present a more practical Estate version along with a Coupe model that will replace today’s CLK. The latter will be heavily inspired from the Paris Motor Show ConceptFascination study.

2010 Mercedes E-Class

Mercedes-Benz 2010 S400 BlueHybrid

Gasoline-electric hybrids. So, you might breakeven in fuel costs in about ten years of careful driving. By then, the battery will need replacing, and to fix it, it may cost you just as much as your car is worth- or more. Are gas-electric hybrids really worth looking into? Well, that's still debatable, and more on that, a little later... I firmly believe, and a lot of other "car guys" will contest, the gas-electric hybrid is an intermediate technology at best- a solution till something truly superior or sustainable comes along.

Mention "hybrid" to most German manufacturers, and they'd almost scoff at the notion. Since the late 1970's diesel has always been their first choice in environmentally friendly, economical solutions to a greener automotive footprint, and they've done well with them. Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi/VW all offer a lineup of efficiently powerful diesels to fit the bill, even importing a handful of models Stateside. But things are changing.

(You didn't think Mercedes-Benz would ever pattern a hybrid after what? A Lexus? Please….)

Mercedes-Benz is the first to unveil the production hybrid that uses a lithium ion battery. The very same type of battery found in your cell phone or laptop. But isn't this the same type of battery as found in the Tesla Roadster? It is- but the Tesla Roadster is an all-electric plug-in, a glorified kit-car in comparison; hardly a mass-produced, sophisticated road machine like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

The 2010 Mercedes-Benz S400 BlueHybrid™- is the first hybrid ever for the manufacturer; in fact, it's actually a "mild hybrid" with an electric motor kicking-in for a few seconds at startup, mostly. To note- even the use of the color "blue" over "green" sets this hybrid apart… But anyway… That's just marketing. It is the first-ever production car to use a lithium-ion battery, unlike most that use nickel-hydride types.

Being a "mild hybrid," its hybrid effect is subtle, with the thin, twenty-horse, 118 lb-ft electric motor wedged between the conventional 3.5-liter Mercedes V6 engine and the advanced seven-speed automatic transmission as found in any top-range S-Class sedan for a combined 295 horsepower.

The battery itself is about the size of a shoebox, made by Continental. It has 32 cells, (made by Saft of Europe) and has the output of 120 volts, 0.9 amps per hour, neatly positioned in the engine bay- with the rest of the engines and motors, of course. A cooling system tied to the S-Class' HVAC system ensures the battery is kept at safe, optimal temperatures all the time, even while the car is parked, with the aid of a dedicated electric cooling motor.

The engineering is so unique, that according to Mercedes-Benz, they're confident the battery will last the lifetime of the entire car. Now, if these were the Mercedes-Benzes of 20 years ago, I'd say that's a good thirty years of operating service; but well, I suppose a battery that lasts as good as the car is a good estimate for "a long time." Whatever that is these days, I really don't know anymore.

The electric motor kicks-in under heavy load conditions, engine re-starts and kicking-in at very low speeds from a complete stop; unlike most hybrids in the market that can and will drive under complete electric power, a hybrid like the S400 uses electric motors minimally- aiding in the engine stall/shut-down to a stop and from a slow start-up in stop-and-go city driving. The whole process is silky smooth, so unnoticeable; you have to watch the dash-mounted display to know what exactly is happening if you really care at all.

In typical Mercedes-Benz fashion- the S400 is a masterpiece of cutting edge technology, but, it comes at a price- almost $90,000. But then again, this is a big, heavy, loaded high-performance luxury sedan; that can still do zero-to-sixty in just over seven seconds, all while still getting an additional 165 miles per tank of gas over a similar traditional S-Class. According to the manufacturer it can get 19 city/26 highway, its some 26% more efficient than the standard S550 sedan for about the same money! You're even eligible for a one-time tax credit of about $1,200- something to put towards rubber floormats, wheel locks, plastic driving mugs and diecast models for the kids in the dealer's boutique.

In comparing the S400 to its contemporary full-diesel, CDI S-Class siblings (not offered Stateside) the economy and footprint on the environment with the carbon emissions is about equal. But the Swabians are not ditching diesel, the old Otto cycle just yet; diesel is technology they pioneered in 1936. Don't be shocked if a diesel hybrid is next.

The 2010 S400 maintains, that, while cars are clearly not what they used to be, alas, a Mercedes is still a Mercedes, and one that is "Engineered Like No Other Car..."

Remember those days? I do.

Mercedes ML 2012 - spy shots

Mercedes ML 2012

The Mercedes Benz ML Class is expected to make its debut in

2011, but its prototype has already been captured test driven in heavy camouflage by cameras. The car looks quite similar to the 2009 model, but has a somewhat more compact body.

The roof and beltline are also similar, but finer details are not visible. In order to meet stricter European standards and also be more environmentally friendly, the new ML is expected to offer a 2.2 liter four-cylinder diesel engine developing 152kW, while a 168kW V6 diesel and a 248kW petrol V6 will add to the engine options.

2011 Mercedes-Benz CLS shows more of its new design

2011 CLS

Mercedes-Benz has taken the testing to a new phase and the car is covered with just black tape.

As we can see the overall design has not changed much, though it looks like the car is a bit bigger than the current CLS. Rumor is that it is based on the S-Class not the extended E-Class like the current CLS.

Other notable differences compared to the current one are mirrors, which are mounted on the door not at the A-Pillar notch(still on the door). We can also see the new shape of lights(both are LEDs) and bumpers.

Power will come from the same V6 and V8 units as on the current generation. New addition could be a hybrid version that combines a 3.5-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor for a total output of 299 hp.

Other changes are all under the skin, we can expect plenty of new safety and luxury features so that the new CLS can take on the likes of new Jaguar XJ and Porsche Panamera.

Magna To Build Mercedes-Benz SLS Bodies

Canadian-Austrian auto parts giant Magna, which recently won a bidding war to acquire Opel, said it will build aluminum bodies for the new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG at its manufacturing facility here.
Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG
The company's Magna Steyr subsidiary will make a number of parts for the car, including the gullwing doors, hood and deck lid, and will supply much of the paintwork. Magna also will provide engineering support for the complete vehicle.

The Magna Steyr facility in Graz, formerly a part of Steyr-Daimler-Puch, has assembled the Mercedes-Benz Geländewagen for 30 years. It will also assemble the Aston Martin Rapide and, beginning in 2012, the Porsche Boxster and Cayman. In addition to the G-Class, Magna Steyr also has built such models as the BMW X3, the Saab 9-3 convertible, the Chrysler 300C and the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Mercedes-Benz Jan-Sep China Sales Up 52% At 44,300 Units

Daimler AG's (DAI) Mercedes-Benz (China) Ltd. said Monday its sales in the January-September period rose 52% from a year earlier to 44,300 units, surpassing its total sales for last year.

Sales in September rose 62% from a year earlier to 6,500 units, including sales of its Mercedes-Benz, smart minicar and Maybach brand vehicles, the German auto maker said in a statement, without providing year-earlier figures.

Sales of the locally produced C-Class totaled 11,300 units in the January-September period, making it Mercedes-Benz's best-selling vehicle so far this year in China, it said.

Mercedes-Benz sales in China last year rose 44% to 38,700 units.

Bernard Madoff’s Mercedes-Benz to Be Auctioned by U.S. Marshals

A 2001 Mercedes-Benz E320 once owned by convicted conman Bernard Madoff and his wife is going on the auction block next week.

The black station wagon with 44,146 miles is among 33 vehicles that will be auctioned on Oct. 23 in East Brunswick, New Jersey, as part of a sale of vehicles seized by or forfeited to the U.S. Marshals Service.

A Mercedes like Madoff’s has a suggested retail value of $13,727 to $19,530, according to estimates from auto pricing services Kelley Blue Book and Edmunds.com. The Madoff heritage probably won’t add to the car’s auction price, said Tim Minoughan, auction manager for CWS Marketing Group, which is conducting the sale for the marshals.

“If it were a Bentley or a Rolls Royce or something really high valued, then that would be splash flash,” Minoughan said. “It’s hard to do that with an E320 wagon.”

Other vehicles at the auction range from a non-operational 1997 Nissan Maxima with 127,000 miles -- Kelley Blue Book value $2,450 -- to a 2006 Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren, which Edmunds.com says is worth $357,000.

Sam Israel’s RV

There’s also a 2007 Coachmen Freelander recreational vehicle with 8,939 miles on the odometer that belonged to Samuel Israel, founder of the Bayou Group LLC hedge fund, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison for a $400 million fraud. Similar vehicles originally sold for $69,999.

Madoff and his wife, Ruth, who has not been indicted, agreed in June to forfeit $170 billion in assets to settle claims with the U.S. Justice Department. The agreement covered real estate, investments, cars, boats, artwork and other property. Madoff is serving a 150-year prison sentence.

2010 Mercedes-Benz S400 Hybrid

2010 Mercedes-Benz S400 Hybrid

2010 Mercedes-Benz S400 Hybrid

Base Price: $87,950

Type: Front-engine, rear-wheel-drive, 4-door sedan

Powerplant: 3.5L V6 w/electric motor

Power (net): 295 hp, 284 lb-ft torque

Transmission: 7-speed automatic

MPG: 19 city/26 hwy
2010 Mercedes-Benz S400 Hybrid
2010 Mercedes-Benz S400 Hybrid is also the company’s first hybrid of any type to make it into showrooms. For 2010, the entire S-Class lineup has been given a very minor refresh that includes a new grille, headlight clusters with flavor-of-the-day LED running lights, and new front and rear bumpers. The S400 shares in all of those updates and, aside from a couple of hybrid badges outside and in, the land yacht is indistinguishable from its S-Class brethren, unless you look under the hood. Even then, it's tough to tell the difference.
The powertrain in the S400 is comprised of a 3.5 liter V6 engine, a 7-speed automatic transmission, and a small electric motor mounted between them. The hybrid battery itself is no larger than the 12-volt lead-acid type used to start conventional S-Class sedans, and fits into the same space in the engine bay where one of those is normally found.
2010 Mercedes-Benz S400 Hybrid
The hybrid system in the 2010 Mercedes-Benz S400 Hybrid is mild, which means it never operates in electric-only mode the way the one in the Toyota Prius does. Instead, the 20 horsepower electric motor assists the internal combustion engine under acceleration, and allows it to shut off whenever the vehicle comes to a rest and instantly restart when the driver steps on the erstwhile 'gas' pedal. The design trades maximum fuel efficiency for simplicity and lower cost, battery not included.
Mercedes-Benz S400 Hybrid
The primary reason we haven't seen a hybrid with a lithium ion pack before is expense, so it's maybe not a surprise that the first one comes in a car with a price tag of $87,950, excluding a $1,150 green tax credit. Mercedes-Benz is hush hush on how much of that money goes towards the battery, but outside estimates range from $8,000 on up. The automaker is likely keeping the number under wraps in the hope that by the time the government mandated 8-10 year/100,000-150,000 warranty runs out, the replacement cost will be down to more palatable levels.Mercedes-Benz S400 Hybrid

2011 Mercedes-Benz R-Class Facelift Spy Shots

Mercedes-Benz is determined not to completely write-off its ‘Grand Sport Tourer’ just yet. The 2011 Mercedes-Benz R-Class received a mild facelift in 2007 to help turn around flagging sales, but a second and more extensive update is in fact planned for the 2011 model year as previewed by these latest spy shots of a prototype caught testing in Germany.
2011 Mercedes-Benz R-Class facelift
The first facelift came less than two years after the vehicle was first shown at 2005’s New York Auto Show, and was implemented mainly to increase the car’s desirability. A cheaper rear-wheel drive model was added to the lineup as well as a more flexible seven-seater model, but other than that the R-Class remained mostly unchanged.
2011 Mercedes-Benz R-Class facelift
For the next update Mercedes-Benz will give the car a major styling overhaul with a new front-end planned as well as a slightly revised rear and interior. Expected to be launched in the second half of next year, the new 2011 Mercedes-Benz R-Class appears to receive the same squared-off treatment as seen on the A- and B-Class models, including angular headlights and a larger more prominent grille. 2011 Mercedes-Benz R-Class facelift

Mercedes new E-Class

Mercedes 2010 E-Class Detroit White Sport

Mercedes E550 Coupe Edmunds

German luxury car maker Mercedes Benz today launched a brand new version of its sedan E-Class in India priced at Rs 46.98 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The new E-Class comes with a 3.5 litre V-6 petrol engine, which would be locally assembled here.

The company has so far sold a total of 11,000 units of the existing E-Class in the country.Mercedes Benz India had last month launched a special edition of its sedan C-Class also in an attempt to boost sales. Earlier, the company had projected a dip in sales this year compared with 2008. However, it expects to register impressive growth next year onwards.

Mercedes Benz India Managing Director and CEO Wilfried Aulbur had said this year the company would be lagging a little behind than its sales in 2008.Last year Mercedes Benz India had sold 3,625 units in the Indian market.

Mercedes-Benz launches Actros

For Mercedes-Benz, there is more to the Indian automobile market than just luxury cars. Along with Daimler India Commercial Vehicles, it is now looking to grow its share in the premium commercial vehicle market, which Volvo has ruled unchallenged for a while. Mercedes is not a newcomer to the Indian commercial vehicle market, having launched its Actros trucks and Mercedes-Benz buses in September 2008. The company has sold 580 trucks and 25 buses so far.

Analysts say Mercedes has got the timing right. The economy is emerging out of the slowdown and demand for trucks from the infrastructure sector is projected to be robust in the days to come. Sale of heavy commercial vehicles has rebounded after several months.

Mercedes-Benz’s head of sales and marketing (trucks), Dinesh Jain, plans to focus on specialised segments such as mining (the bulk of Actros trucks have been sold to operators in this sector), irrigation (where the company supplies to contractors in Andhra Pradesh) and special applications such as fire browsing. Jain also has on his target hydro-power projects and project carriers which haul heavy machinery such as nuclear reactors. These sectors require high power and torque and Mercedes claims it has the highest horsepower trucks in the industry.

PricewaterhouseCoopers Partner Abdul Majeed believes the market for heavy commercial vehicles holds great potential. “Earlier, 7- to 12-tonne trucks would do well in the market. But with increasing infrastructure needs, the demand for higher tonnage vehicles will only rise,” says he.

The Mercedes trucks are priced at around Rs 67 lakh on an average. The final price, of course, is fixed after consultations with customers. Jain says the premium helps the company get better profit margins. The commercial vehicles business of Mercedes-Benz, he adds, has been profitable from day one.

For buses, the company can take heart from the huge orders being placed by cities under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission as well as road transport corporations of various states. Already, the company has sold buses to Maharashtra, Karnataka and Greater Mumbai.

It wants to raise the contribution of commercial vehicles to its sale revenue from the current 15 per cent. To make that happen, Mercedes-Benz will introduce a range of new vehicles such as long-haul trucks, city buses, triple-axle intercity coaches and over-dimensional-cargo vehicles.
